Most problems in a house start in its structure: a footing cut short, a column out of line, a slab loaded before it has cured. They stay hidden until a crack shows up years later. For 15 years we have built to the structural engineer's drawings, one stage at a time, checking each stage before the next one begins.

A raft foundation ready for concrete: the steel mesh laid, column cages standing in position, and the excavation held back on every side. Once the building is up, none of this is visible again. That's why it gets the most attention.
